Registration

For families new to soccer, the divisions go by age, not grade.  All age cut-offs are as of August 1 with no exceptions allowed downward.  For example, if your child turns 10 years old on or before July 31st of this year, they play in the U-11 or older division even if their classmates are in the U-10 division.  If they turn 10 years old on August 2nd, they may play in U-10 or older.  The youngest age group is 4 year olds, termed U-5, or "under 5" years old.  The In-House league is an instructional league for our youngest players (U-5, U-6 and U-7), LSCL is the recreational league, AASL is the higher competition with more travel for boys, and NOGSL is the higher competition with more travel for girls.  Premier or club soccer is not registered through AYSA, but through the team.

To be placed on an In-House or County team, generally all that is needed is a completed registration packet.  Every effort will be taken to see that your child is placed on a team.  Some age groups are tighter than others due to the number of volunteer coaches.  Of course, if an adult volunteers to coach, their child is guaranteed a spot on the team.  Many AASL and NOGSL teams hold try-outs as determined by the coach of the team.  To be included in a try-out, if any, please return your registration package with a note stating that you would like to attempt to have your child placed on an AASL or NOGSL team.  If none are available, your child will be placed on an LCSL team.  Again, any adult may volunteer to coach at this level, too, and select their own players.  However, these leagues require a coaching license that requires attendance at a licensing clinic, typically lasting one weekend.

This year the AYSA will only accept complete registration packets.  If the registration packet is returned lacking information, it will be discarded.  This is because the different leagues where our players are registered charge extra fees for incomplete individual registrations.

A complete registration includes:

Dual-carding is when your child plays on two different teams.  Players are permitted to play on only one team per league, but may play on two teams in different leagues.  For example, a child is permitted to play on an LCSL and NOGSL team in the same season.  Two separate registration forms and fees are required.  Remember, every effort is made to see that every child wanting to play has a team to play on.  Therefore, AYSA may refuse to register for both requested leagues if there are not extra spots on the second team.  (Again, AYSA does not register for premier or club teams, see the coach.)

Play typically begins in August for the LCSL, AASL and NOGSL teams, and September for In-House.  The soccer "season" is divided into two parts; a Fall and a Spring.  The above registration packet and fee enrolls the player in both and there is no need to reregister for Spring.  The Fall season will run to the end of October and the Spring season will start up after spring-break and continue into June.
