AYSA Weather-Related Cancellation Policy
What to know about weather related cancellationsUpdated Tuesday August 27, 2013 by Amherst Youth Soccer Association.
With all the crazy weather we deal with in Northeast Ohio, weather cancellations are a reality we need to deal with. The question then becomes, how to comminucate the latest information, in a rapidly changing weather environment, to hundreds of families? The answer? There really isn't a perfect solution. A combination of proactive parents and communication from coaches makes the job easier. Here is our policy when it comes to weather-related cancellations:
All Weather related cancellations will be posted to AYSAOhio.com as a field closure. These decisions will be made by 4:30PM. After 4:30, coaches should assume we are playing as scheduled and should arrive at the field as scheduled - unless there is thunder/lightning or prolonged heavy rain.
When there are field closures, a bright yellow box will appear on the front page of the website. By clicking into it you will be able to see which fields are closed and for how long. This is important because different field locations handle rain and water better than others. It is DEFINITELY possible for one or more fields to remain open when another is closed.
The exception is thunder and lightning - any thunder or lightning requires the fields to be evacuated for 30 minutes. Each occurrence of thunder OR lightning resets the 30 minute requirement.
What about travel games? The same rules apply - if we close a field, any game on that field is cancelled. If weather strikes right before a game - or during - it is at the SOLE DISCRETION of the referee in charge of the game to make the decision. Their decision is final.
The condition of our fields is everyone's responsibility. We are going to make every effort to play or practice. The safety of our players is a priority, however, as is the condition of our fields.
